Use lot control to break a product's inventory into groups with an assigned lot number and received date. This ensures items with a short shelf life (ex. chemicals) or an expiration date, or those products requiring date tracking (ex. wire) may be traced to a group of origin.
When a lot item is added to a sales order, you can choose which lot to sell it from, which allows you to sell the oldest merchandise first.
To use lots to manage inventory, you need to
- Require lot control on the product level: You must configure the product to require lot control.
- Set up a lot: Create the lots that will organize your inventory
- Receive an item that is under lot control: Additional steps are required in the standard stock receiving procedure.
- Run a lot control inventory: Check on inventory that is under lot control, including quantities and transaction history.
